As a pre-teen, I lived in Phoenix Arizona for several years. On the weekends my family and I would often head up North to the charming town of Sedona to get out of the heat, and to hike the numerous winding trails up the red rocks.
I was never phased by the numerous people along the trails who were meditating or holding their arms open wide with their eyes closed in certain areas. What I was unaware of until I grew a bit older, was that Sedona is extremely famous as being a place of spiritual wellness and discovery and that the entire town is considered to be a Vortex.
What is a vortex? A vortex is a spot on the earth where extremely powerful energy is either cascading upon the earth or exploding out of the earth's surface. It is said that vortexes can be found as sacred sites such as Machu Picchu in Peru or the Great Pyramid of Egypt. People believe that the energy in a vortex appears to be a spiral, moving up or down.
Sedona tops the list as having some of the most powerful vortexes in the world. It is said that people can develop leaps and bounds spiritually in Sedona's vortexes because the veils to other dimensions are thinner.
Throughout the world, Sedona has a reputation as being a place of enlightenment. Even if you aren't experiencing the vortex's you can tell that even the downtown area is home to spiritually awakened individuals. There are wellness shops and alternative healing practices scattered throughout the town. Many of the spas offer treatments using indigenous materials such as red rock clay or local plants.
Personally, even as an adult, I can't say that I've felt anything spectacular when I've visited Sedona's vortex sites including Boynton Canyon which is supposed to be the strongest of all. That being said, I always feel good when I leave which may simply be because of the scenic beauty found among the red rock formations.
If you want to visit Sedona and explore a vortex there are companies and even individual guides that offer vortex tours.
If you have ever been to Sedona, did you feel a special energy that is different than anywhere else?
