The Coronavirus exacerbated an existing food insecurity problem experienced by many of our residents. We are pleased to present this special Thanksgiving Emergency Food Distribution Event for those who are in dire need and to make sure all our families have something to be thankful for this year. The Coronavirus has created uncertainty and unforeseen challenges for us all. We hope this emergency food distribution helps those families who continue to struggle. ” ~ Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr.

Essex County residents in need of food for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday will be afforded the opportunity to receive a Thanksgiving Turkey and dinner box which will assist in their meal preparation. The food will be distributed at two upcoming events: one in West Orange and one in Newark.

At each location, Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. and members of the Essex County Board of Commissioners will participate in giving out 1,500 frozen turkeys and boxes of non-perishable foods. The meals will be especially needed in families who continue to experience financial hardship due to the ongoing pandemic.

Each car or person walking will receive a frozen turkey and an emergency food box that contains food items served during a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

  • While supplies last, only one turkey and food box will be placed into a vehicle’s trunk or given to a resident who walks to the site.
