Grab a coffee and support the special needs community in Fairfax

Caroline Cunningham

If you’ve got a sweet tooth and want to enjoy some of the most delicious sweets paired with a coffee, head to Cameron’s Coffee & Chocolates in Fairfax, VA. This remarkable shop employs adults with special needs so not only will you savor your treats but you’ll also be supporting a wonderful community.

You see, Cameron’s believes a job is more than just a paycheck. It’s about belonging and having a purpose in life. Unfortunately, 84% of young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities are unemployed.

But this does not mean they are unemployable. And so a nonprofit organization, known as Every1CanWork whose goal is to create permanent employment opportunities for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities, opened up Cameron’s Coffee & Chocolates.

This shop is not only a dessert lover’s paradise, it’s a place where people who are often ignored are instead cherished and an essential part of the team.

So stop by and satisfy your sweet tooth while having an impact!

When it comes to coffee, Cameron’s has all the necessities. Cafe Au Lait, Latte, Cappucino, Americano, Espresso, and my favorite, the Cold Brew.

As for desserts, Cameron’s is constantly switching it up. They have new kinds of chocolate bars, cupcakes and cookies every day. My favorites are the cake pops and their vegan chocolate chip cookie.

If you can’t decide which sweet to get, then buy a few. At Cameron’s eating chocolate is guilt-free, because in their words, “How could you ever feel guilty about eating a delicious piece of chocolate that makes so many people happy?"
