The joy of Peachey's Baking Co. at the Florida State Fair

Carlos Hernandez

One of the best reasons to look forward to the Florida State Fair and fair season is Peachey's Baking Co. (known in the past as Amish Baking Co.). They almost always make the list of the best food at the Florida State Fair and this year is no different. The donuts and pretzels at their stand are just incredible.

Peachey's focuses on making everything fresh and delicious. You really will not go wrong lookin for their stands at any events, they tend to travel around the country doing fairs and festival, but also set up shop down South in the Bradenton and Sarasota area regularly.

One of their specials this year is a Blueberry Cream donut at the Florida State Fair. It's Peachey's original vanilla glazed doughnut topped with fresh blueberries from Albritton Fruit Farms in Sarasota and whipped cream! Basically a blueberry cream pie. Just writing that made me hungry!

The Florida State Fair is happening now through May 2nd so time is running out to grab some delicious donuts and baked goods. The first fair was held way back in 1904 in downtown Tampa at Henry B. Plant’s Tampa Bay Hotel. In 1915, they combined with Tampa’s Gasparilla Carnival to become the most-deep-fried event of the year.

In 1975, the Florida State Legislature created the Florida State Fair Authority. Now an official organization, they packed up and moved to their new home now known as the Florida State Fairgrounds just off of Interstate 4 near Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and U.S. Highway 301.

Parking is free to all attendees. Tickets to the Florida State Fair start at $8 for children and $14 for adults. More information is available on their website.

In observance of COVID-19, interested guests should only attend after evaluating their own health risks. Purchase of a ticket and entry on to the Fairgrounds constitutes an understanding of these risks and willingness to undertake the risk of exposure. No refunds will be given following entry on to the Fairgrounds. Cashless options are available and there are hand sanitzer stations throughout.

Masks are to be worn in all indoor spaces and outdoors when not consuming food and drinks unless an impairment to an existing health condition. Entry will be denied without a face mask. All guests over 5 years of age are required to wear a face mask.
