Nestled behind the bustling little mountain town of Brevard, North Carolina lies one of the most beautiful bed and breakfasts — The Bromfield Inn.

Built in 1926 by James S. Bromfield, the luxury inn boasts six bedrooms with en suite baths, a parlor, library, dining room and two acres featuring open verandas, walking paths and landscaped courtyards.

The cozy stone house has since been restored to its 1920’s glory, and in 2017, it was turned into a bed and breakfast. New owners, Kari and Sandra Kurtz, a mother-daughter duo, purchased the house in 2022 and continue to run the B&B.

While the house’s beauty is unrivaled, the three-course breakfast might steal the show, highlighting local honey, fruit, breads and pastries — a true Brevard, N.C. experience. The inn also offers spaces for dining al fresco or enjoying coffee by the fireplace.

If you’re lucky, you might just see a white squirrel, local to the area, while wandering the property. Legend has it the white squirrels escaped a traveling carnival and decided to call Brevard home.

You can even visit the White Squirrel Shoppe in downtown, a short walk from The Bromfield Inn. In fact, the town of Brevard is quaint but vibrant, offering plenty of opportunities to shop, dine and peruse art galleries.

Asher and I visited Cup & Saucer, The Square Root (an amazing dinner), Downtown Chocolates (a must) and Wine Down on Main during our stay. The innkeeper also recommends The Falls Landing, Wild Morel and Vescovo.

For shopping, we headed to MANtiques (a favorite), Gravy (shopping supports the local Boys and Girls Club), Theophilus, Highland Books (the best bookstore) and Rae + Ivy.

Besides the white squirrels, Brevard, N.C. is also known for its many waterfalls — the perfect activity for warmer weather.

Between our wonderful stay at the bed and breakfast, the kindest innkeepers, and the perfect downtown, I would highly recommend a mountain getaway to The Bromfield Inn.
