(ATLANTA, Ga.) Sasha Obama's new boyfriend is the son of Hollywood actor and Buckhead resident, Clifton Powell.
The Gen-Z romance comes as no surprise to fans of the Obama family. The First Lady Michelle Obama alluded to her daughters, Malia, 23, and Sasha, 20, being in relationships on an episode of the Ellen Show. "Now they are bringing grown men home," says Michelle. "Before it was just, like, pop bands. Now they have boyfriends and real lives."
In the clip, Michelle talks candidly about watching her daughters grow up and their love for the Jonas Brothers.
According to the Daily Mail, he couple started dating in August 2021 after Sasha left the University of Michigan for the University Southern California in Los Angeles.
Towering at 6' 5," Clifton Powell Jr., 24, previously played basketball for the University of California in Santa Barbara, Page Six says. He later transitioned into a career as a writer and director where he's created content for Nike and Peloton.
Raised in the Black Beverly Hills, specifically Ladera Heights, Powell Jr. was no stranger to celebrity neighbors. The ritzy enclave that includes Windsor Hills, Baldwin Hills and View Park is considered home to Black stars as Tina Turner, Ray Charles, Nancy Wilson, Lenny Kravitz, and John Singleton.
Powell Jr.'s father is married to Kimberly Crooms, 58. He has an older sister, May, 29.
Clifton Powell is best known for roles in films such as House Party, Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, Why Do Fools Fall in Love, Next Friday, The Brothers, Trapped: Haitian Nights, and over 100 other films.
Malia met her boyfriend, Brit Rory Farquharson, 23, while attending Harvard in 2017.
