USS Orleck: Jacksonville’s new floating Naval Museum

The USS Orleck will welcome visitors on board soon. Jacksonville's new floating Naval Museum arrived in Jacksonville earlier March. The ship is moored temporary at the Jacksonville Riverwalk near the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront hotel until it moved to his new home later this year. The ship was named after Lieutenant Joseph Orleck, Commanding Officer of USS Nauset, killed in action on 9 September, 1943 during World War II, & posthumously awarded the Navy Cross. The USS Orleck was instrumental during the Vietnam and Korean war. She fired more than 11,000 rounds during the Vietnam war, earning the nickname ”Grey Ghost of the Vietnam Coast” & netting an astonishing 14 battle stars.
