Hand carved from one giant redwood log, and placed on a 1917 Nash Quad truck body, the travel log featured a kitchenette, toilet, bedroom, dining table, and bookcase. The travel log motored across the US in an effort to support the preservation of the giant northern California redwood trees until 1921 when it was eventually stored for 75 years.

Great spot for lunch or dinner right along highway 101 in Eureka CA. Great house-brewed beers on tap, and a delicious menu selection; including local caught, house beer battered cod which we opted for today. Plenty of parking in back and super friendly service. Great stop when traveling highway 101 in Northern California.

Lost Coast Brewery in Eureka CA 

The Timber Heritage Association in Humboldt County offers speeder car train rides around Humboldt Bay in Northern California. See the schedule at the end of the video, or visit timberheritage.org for more details. We enjoyed a pleasant ride this Saturday afternoon. The cost was $8 for adults and well worth it.

Come out and enjoy awesome kites, crafts, and food trucks at Halvorson Park in old town Eureka CA this weekend 5/20- 5/21. The Timber Heritage Society is also giving speeder car runs along Humboldt Bay on Sat.

Redwood Coast Kite Festival and Artisan Fair this weekend in Eureka CA 

Located in the southern slope of Table Bluff in Loleta CA, the paved and gravel section of this trail provide a short, scenic walk along the eel river valley sleugh. The walk can be made much longer by taking the sandy road section to the South Jetty Beach. The views are stunning and there are plenty of birds and other wildlife to see. This area is managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. As far as I can tell, dogs are allowed on this trail (please pick up after your pets).

From the Hearth kitchen and pie shop has locations in Red Bluff and Redding CA. They have an interesting menu with incredible breakfast options for carnivores or vegans. They also have delicious pie and pastries, as well as great coffee. You won't be disappointed! I had the pesto eggs Benedict and my husband had the house made hash breakfast bowl. Both were delicious and the coffee was top notch.

Along I-5 in northern California you'll find the quaint city of Red Bluff. There's a picturesque downtown area with great restaurants and shops, as well as a historic saloon. Don't pass this interesting city without a stop. For breakfast I recommend From the Hearth kitchen and pie shop. Dinner at Green Barn whiskey kitchen is another must.

The Green Barn whiskey kitchen in Red Bluff CA is a local gem. A terrific steakhouse and bar with delicious food and great, friendly service. Located on Hwy 36 just off of Interstate 5 in northern California, this is worth a stop. Don't forget to make a reservation.

Bob's Footlongs is a Classic American Diner serving up Burgers, Dogs, Fries, Shakes & More! The decor is original and the friendly service is unbeatable. I recommend the chili dog, but the hand dipped corn dogs looked pretty delicious too. Located in Fortuna CA, this family owned diner is worth a visit.

The Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary is home to the city of Arcata's innovative waste water treatment facility. Located on the north end of Humboldt Bay in northern California, it encompasses 307 acres of land along the Pacific Flyway and has hosted over 320 species of birds. There are also over 5 miles of walking and biking paths, an interpretive center, and a native plant garden.

Made up of a husband and wife team making high quality, small batch craft spirits. They use exclusively American made equipment and source their grains as locally as possible. They're currently putting the finishing touches on a beautiful new tasting room in Arcata, CA. Look for it to open this year (2023).

In Fortuna CA, right off of highway 101 you'll find an unmarked bar, The Hideout. With a large variety of spirits, beer on tap, and wine, they also offer a limited bar menu including chicken wings, jalapeno poppers, onion rings, and more.

Traveling highway 101 through northern California and need a place to stretch your legs and walk your 4-legged passengers? The Fortuna River Walk trail is a perfect stop. Located along highway 101 in Fortuna CA, stop for a break or stay overnight in one of the three motels or RV park. Enjoy dinner at Bella Italiana or California's first organic brewery; Eel River Brewery, all located along the beautiful Eel River, River Walk trail.

Fortuna CA Rohner Park offers redwood and forest trails right in the middle of the city. There is easy parking, restrooms, and a playground. The trails are dog friendly (on a leash, please pick up after your dog).

A walk around the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Hookton unit. There's a visitor center, restrooms, a 3 mile accessable walking trail, a bird blind, benches and viewing platforms, and even a non-motorized boat launch. This unit of the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge has the safest parking of all the units in Humboldt County.

Feel free to use any vegetables you prefer. This a a tasty way to get some veggies in. I used sharp jack cheese and it really made the meal. Happy camping!
