Adults 21 and over are now permitted to grow up to 6 cannabis plants for recreational use in California. Growing more than 6 mature plants is a misdemeanor carrying up to 6 months in jail and/or $500 fine.
The California government allows growing 6 mature and 12 immature plants at one time.
Growing cannabis beyond this limit would require a commercial license. However, the patients who require access to a larger quantity of medical marijuana due to their medical condition can apply for a grower's license, which allows cultivators to grow up to 99 plants at once.

It's important to note that regulations and laws regarding cannabis cultivation can change over time, so it's always advisable to check with local authorities or consult a legal professional for the most current information. It is prudent to comply with local regulations and restrictions regarding indoor vs. outdoor cultivation, plant height limits, and any zoning requirements.
The health effects of cannabis can vary depending on various factors such as the individual, method of consumption, quantity used, and frequency of use. Here are some considerations:
1. Medicinal Benefits: Cannabis has been found to have potential medicinal benefits for certain conditions. It may help with pain management, nausea, muscle spasms, seizures, and reducing inflammation. Some forms of cannabis-derived medications have been approved by regulatory agencies for specific medical purposes.
2. Therapeutic Potential: Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-intoxicating compound found in cannabis, has gained attention for its potential therapeutic properties. It's believed to have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anti-anxiety effects.
3. Risks and Adverse Effects: Cannabis use, especially when used excessively or in high concentrations of THC (the psychoactive compound), can have potential risks and side effects. These can include impaired memory and cognitive function, reduced motivation, increased heart rate, respiratory problems, and psychological effects such as anxiety or paranoia. Frequent or heavy cannabis use may also lead to dependence or addiction in some individuals.
4. Individual Reactions: People may react differently to cannabis due to variations in genetics, overall health, and sensitivity to its compounds. Some individuals may experience positive effects, while others may have negative reactions.
