For over 35 years, Great China has been serving their delicious fare on Bancroft Way. It is a local favorite and the many times I've been, there's always a line to get in. I always start out with the salt and pepper calamari as an appetizer. For a main dish, you just can’t go wrong with a serving of their Chinese string beans with beef and mushrooms. If you're feeling particularly fancy, go with some Peking duck. It is a bit pricey but the quality of their duck is unmatched. When it comes to ordering just the right drink for your meal, skip the tea and ask for a wine recommendation. Great China boasts an award-winning wine program. I always ask the pros for their suggestions as to what will pair best with my meal, and they never disappoint.
What I recommend: Peking duck, walnut prawns, Mongolian beef

With such a wonderful view of the bay, I sometimes forget that the reason I love this place is thanks to their awesome seafood offerings. If you have a special occasion to celebrate, and you would like to do so over Chinese food, this is the place to do it. They offer everything from barbecued meats to dim sum. For a starter, I enjoy their minced seafood lettuce cups. If you feel so inclined as to indulge, then treat yourself to such delicacies as empress fish fin soup or a braised whole fresh abalone. I had my graduation dinner here and they took very good care of us, superb customer servie to very high quality dishes. They also offer a wide variety of dessert options from chilled mango pudding to a traditional steamed sponge cake if you have room after their delicious dishes.

Located on Solano Avenue, China Village is open five days a week for lunch and dinner. When I visit, I like to start with their five-spice rolled bean curd sheets and a cup of their classic wonton soup. If you like spicy foods, I suggest trying their country-style spicy pork spareribs. If you are looking for something a little but more adventurous, give the leaf tripe with blood pudding a try. For anyone who Is not a fan of the spicy or the exotic, they have many noodle dishes that are sure to please even the fussiest of diners.
