The Szechuan Sauce was first available in 1998. It got released as a new McNuggets dipping sauce as a part of a promotion for the Disney animated movie Mulan. The dip receives much love and sells out super fast. Thus, the product was not available long and vanished after the Mulan promotion ended.
Nineteen years later, it gets mentioned in the show Rick and Morty. This created nostalgia for the McNuggets condiment. It once again led to a limited-edition debut in 2017. The power of television show fans, right? It also got brought back in the following year.
The Szechuan Sauce is a twist on southwestern Chinese cuisine. The ingredients are soy, garlic, ginger, and mild vinegar.
Sealed old sauce packages are for sale on eBay. The prices of each vary depending on the seller. When McDonald's made the announcement, a single sauce packet got listed for $950. The packet expired in 2017.
When will the McDonald’s Szechuan Sauce become available?
The fast-food chain will release the condiment on March 31, 2022. It is only accessible on the McDonald’s app.
Consumers will receive the sauce for free when selected with their Chicken McNuggets. The sauce has five different gold foil labels. Four wrappers have two letters each to spell ' Szechuan' and the other reads Sze-chuan.
