McDonald's Stores Are Leaving New York

In one region, McDonald's establishments are leaving New York. The company's competitor Shake Shack will take over the shuttered spots. The change follows New York State Thruway's commitment to redevelop 27 service areas.

McDonald's will close nine stores, which have been serving customers for 20 years.

New York State Thruway And Its Impact

The redevelopment caused the Ramapo and Warners service areas to shut down. The facilities received a facelift. The update includes outdoor seating, food trunks, playgrounds, pet walking, and restaurant areas.

The construction had drawbacks. Nine McDonald's locations near the Thruway area have closed. The shuttering took effect on January 1. Statements said the closures were temporary. Organizers arranged for Applegreen C-Store, Sbarro, Subway, and Burger King to be available.

But McDonald's will return.

The given reason was financial troubles. The rest stops now include Chick-fil-A, Shake Shack, and Panda Express. Shoppers do not seem to mind. Reports say consumers are looking for trendy, luxury, fast food replacements.
