At the Futa Islamic Center in Morrisania, friends and family assembled to mourn the loss of Alfa Barrie. Amidst the lingering uncertainty surrounding the tragic circumstances that led to his untimely demise, solace was found in the support they offered one another.
Alfa Barrie was last seen on May 12 in Harlem, accompanied by 13-year-old Garrett Warren, who was subsequently found in the Harlem River over a week later. An autopsy revealed that Barrie's death was the result of an accidental drowning. Two days after Warren's discovery, Barrie's lifeless body was also recovered.
According to the NYPD, another child was present with Barrie and Warren on the evening they went missing. This eyewitness observed the unfortunate moment when the two boys ended up in the water following a pushing incident.
Numerous unanswered questions surround the untimely passing of Barrie. The police continue to actively investigate the case, while the medical examiner works to determine the precise cause of death.
Last month, the Bronx community joined together in prayer for Barrie. He was remembered as an affectionate and compassionate young boy who was always eager to assist his mother. With aspirations of becoming an engineer, he was determined to make a positive impact on the world.
Commencing at 1:15 p.m., the funeral service provided a solemn opportunity for friends and family to bid their final farewells to a young life that was taken away too soon.
