During a high-speed pursuit on Wednesday evening, a San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) SUV collided with Lucca Deli's storefront on Valencia Street, causing significant damage. Witnesses recounted the incident, stating that the police vehicle lost control and veered into the corner store while pursuing another car.
According to witnesses, two individuals involved in the incident were subsequently taken away in an ambulance, but their current conditions remain unknown.
One witness named Chris described the events, recalling that he was near the intersection on 22nd Street when he noticed a red car recklessly speeding through a stop sign. Immediately after, a police cruiser with its lights on followed closely behind, traveling at the same high speed. The red car swiftly made a left turn onto Valencia Street, with the police cruiser in pursuit.
Chris hurriedly followed the chase down 22nd Street and discovered that the police SUV had crashed into Lucca Deli's facade. The impact resulted in the destruction of the store's glass windows and doors, and the SUV even penetrated the shop's floor, causing substantial damage.
It appears that the police SUV had swerved abruptly while making the turn onto Valencia Street. Although it remains uncertain whether the squad car struck any pedestrians, witnesses reported seeing two individuals being transported to the hospital.
Additionally, a motorcycle was found lying on its side near Lucca on 22nd Street. It remains unclear whether the SFPD squad car or the speeding red car had collided with the motorcycle.
Lucca Deli, a historic establishment that has been closed since 2019, suffered the consequences of this unfortunate incident. The new owner, who remains elusive about his plans for the corner spot, can often be seen inside the store, surrounded by comic books, speakers, and other miscellaneous items at a makeshift wooden bar.
