The Highest Byway In America

Mount Evans Scenic Byway was originally created as a part of the first Denver Mountain Park System Scenic Loops. Created to allow the original residents of the Denver and outlying areas to explore the mountains around them safely from the comfort of their own automobiles, this project began in the early 1900s. The unique geology of the Mount Evans area highlighted scenic mountain scapes and unique alpine tundras. In addition, native plants and wildlife to the area made it a point of interest for many even early on. The joy of traveling up the mountainside has only continued to grow in popularity over the years. Protected spaces, hiking areas and scenic overlooks dot the harsh traverse to the top of the highest byway in America making it one of the most unique ways to see Colorado even today.
