Smoky Mountain Mill Site Still Churning Out Cornmeal
Did you know that within the Smoky Mountain National Park there is a mill site which still manages church out corn mean? This historic mill site, Mingus Mill, located just inside the North Carolina boundary of the park, takes only a short hike to see the working mill. During peak season park workers man the mill to demonstrate the workings and also tell tourists about the history of the mill and its purpose within the community. At one point Mingus Mill was the lead mill site for the region and produced meal for the entire community. In addition it was the gathering place for conversation, trading amongst neighbors and commerce.
