Rough Roads Lead To Colorado Ghost Town Of St Elmo

Along the dusty and rough roads near Salida and Buena Vista, you will find one of the Colorado's most well known Ghost Towns, St Elmo. In the winter months it lays cold and dormant, but in summer you would hardly know it is considered to be a ghost town at all. OHVs and tourist wind their way up the mountainside to visit its historic downtown which once was the home of thousands. During the gold and silver rush of Colorado, St Elmo once stood strong with numerous businesses and homes spanning some 70 acres. It was a destination amongst the mountains with a train running into town to pick up and drop off loads and supplies. When the boom fizzled the train pulled the tracks and the town slowly faded into memory. Now you can visit and see the most complete ghost town in Colorado, and one of the most complete in the west.
