(OAKLAND, Calif.) The Town's comic book themed bar, First Edition, on Broadway reopened Friday at 50% capacity.
It's initial opening was just months before the pandemic related shut-down orders went into place in Oakland so the taco and cocktail bar was never fully able to take advantage of the summer swarm on Broadway.
During their most recent, hour long video, one of the bartenders walked viewers through the makings of a M.A.S (Mezcal, Agave and Scotch), a Casadores "Flor De Puebla" and a Mockingbird Margarita (commonly known as a virgin Marg). Notably, as mentioned in the stream, Casadores is a sponsor of the YouTube channel and cocktail-making videos.
The M.A.S is a heavy-hitter drink with 1 oz of Mezcal, Scotch and Lillith and three-quarters of an ounce of lemon and agave syrup, add ice, give it a hefty shake, strain twice and it's ready to be served. For an extra flare the bartenders in the video garnished the drink with a touch of lemon.
Next was the Flor De Puebla that is made with 2 oz of tequila, 1 oz of Jamaica Syrup, three-quarters of an ounce of lime juice and six mint leaves. The bartenders noted that before mixing the mint it's common practice to rub the leaves repeatedly between your fingers to release the aromas.
The bartenders didn't offer their insights on the mocktail margarita but most of the commenters on their video and channel did not seem to mind. The helpful videos were well-attended with viewers sounding off in the comments about how much they enjoyed the bar or asking questions about the conversion from ounces to tablespoons.
All in all, a very informative and fun channel made excellent use of the resources they had in store during the pandemic but now, First Edition is able to make and serve you the drinks.
First Edition will be open Thursday through Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. for now.
