USPS Is Relocating Kansas Post Office

Bryan Dijkhuizen

In May 2022, the USPS closed a post office in Kansas.

For more than a year, residents of Olpe, Kansas have been without a local post office.

The United States Postal Service, with its network of over 33,600 post offices, has the ability to relocate these locations within the same ZIP Code area for various reasons such as lease problems or space optimization.

According to local radio station KVOE, the Olpe Post Office was temporarily closed by the USPS in May 2022. This closure came after the USPS was unable to secure a new lease agreement for the post office's location on 118 Westphalia Street.

Since May 14, 2022, Olpe residents have had to travel to the Emporia Post Office in order to utilize postal services.

The USPS recently announced that it is considering a shift in location for the Olpe Post Office.

With the expiration of the building lease as the driving force, the agency has proposed a relocation. The new plan entails moving the post office to a different building within the 66865 zip code, boasting approximately 900 square feet.

This step is aimed at ensuring that postal services continue seamlessly for the Olpe community.

"The proposed new facility will maintain the same level of retail service as the closed location," the agency added in its release. "The Postal Service apologizes for any inconvenience and appreciates your patience as we assess possible concerns."
