For more than a year, residents of Olpe, Kansas have been without a local post office.
The United States Postal Service, with its network of over 33,600 post offices, has the ability to relocate these locations within the same ZIP Code area for various reasons such as lease problems or space optimization.
According to local radio station KVOE, the Olpe Post Office was temporarily closed by the USPS in May 2022. This closure came after the USPS was unable to secure a new lease agreement for the post office's location on 118 Westphalia Street.
Since May 14, 2022, Olpe residents have had to travel to the Emporia Post Office in order to utilize postal services.
