Willie T’s Seafood Shack, a Florida-based restaurant chain, opened its second location in Silver Spring, Maryland on Monday, March 27.

The eatery, located at 9326 Georgia Ave., offers fast casual oceanic cuisine with grilled and fried options for shrimp, catfish, lobster, crab, and more.

The restaurant is named after Willie Thompson, the grandfather of Warren Thompson, the founder of Thompson Hospitality, a food service company based in Virginia that owns Willie T’s. Warren Thompson wanted to honor his grandfather’s love of fishing and seafood with a cozy and affordable seafood shack.

Willie T’s first location opened in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in January 2023 and has received positive reviews from customers and critics alike. The menu features dishes such as fish and chips, gulf shrimp, lobster tail, oysters, seafood platters, lobster rolls, and crab rolls.

The restaurant also serves chicken tenders, hushpuppies, onion petals, coleslaw, mac and cheese, and crinkle-cut fries as side options. For dessert, customers can enjoy red velvet cake or chocolate cake. The restaurant also offers beer, wine, and Coca-Cola products to drink.

Ken Schell, vice president of operations for Thompson Hospitality, said that Willie T’s aims to fill a niche in the Silver Spring community that lacks seafood options. He also said that the restaurant has been in the works for over a year and has gone through several iterations before settling on the current concept.

Willie T’s Seafood Shack is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and welcomes customers who are looking for a casual and delicious seafood experience.
