Former President Donald Trump held a rally in Conroe, Texas, on Saturday, where he endorsed several Republican candidates for the 2024 elections, repeated his false claims of election fraud, and criticized President Joe Biden’s policies on immigration, energy, and covid-19.
The rally was Trump’s first major rally of the presidential cycle in Texas and his second in January, following a rally in Arizona two weeks ago.
The rally drew thousands of excited supporters who waited for hours to see Trump speak at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. Some drove from other cities or states to attend the event.
Texas Republicans
Trump was joined by several prominent Texas Republicans, including Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller. All of them are seeking re-election in 2022 and have aligned themselves with Trump’s agenda and rhetoric. Trump praised them for their loyalty and urged the crowd to vote for them.
He also announced his endorsement of State Sen. Dawn Buckingham for Texas Land Commissioner, a position currently held by George P. Bush, who is running for Attorney General.
Election Audit
Trump also hinted at his plans for 2024, saying that he is “not going anywhere” and that he will “make America great again”.
He also slammed Biden for his handling of the border crisis, the inflation, the supply chain issues, and the pandemic.
He claimed that Biden was “destroying our country” and that he had won the 2020 election by a “landslide”. He called for an audit of the election results in Texas and other states, despite no evidence of widespread fraud
The rally was part of Trump’s effort to maintain his influence and popularity among Texas Republicans and fend off potential challengers.
Texas is a crucial battleground for the GOP and has been targeted by Democrats who hope to turn it blue. Trump won the state twice, but by a shrinking margin in 2020 against Biden.
