Walmart is taking its delivery service to new heights with drones.
Introduction
The company has partnered with DroneUp, a nationwide on-demand drone delivery provider, to offer customers in Pasco, Hillsborough, and Polk counties the option to have their orders delivered by air.
The drone delivery service is now live and can be used on thousands of different products, with some restrictions and a $3.99 fee.
Customers can log on to droneupdelivery.com and choose their Walmart items. Within a few minutes, an autonomous drone will take off from one of the six participating Walmart stores in the area, fly a pre-approved route, and hover 80 feet above the customer’s yard before lowering the package with a cable.
The service is fast and convenient: customers can expect to receive their orders within 30 minutes of placing them online. The drones can carry up to 10 pounds of weight and deliver within a 1-mile range of the stores. The drones are also equipped with safety features such as battery fail-safes and GPS tracking.
Walmart, 2023
Walmart first announced its investment in DroneUp in June 2021, after testing drone deliveries of at-home COVID-19 self-collection kits in several markets across the U.S.
Since then, Walmart has expanded its drone delivery service to more markets and customers, becoming one of the first retailers to offer this innovative option.
Walmart’s drone delivery service is part of its broader strategy to leverage technology and innovation to enhance its customer experience.
By offering a more convenient, efficient, and enjoyable way to shop for everyday essentials, Walmart aims to increase its sales and loyalty in a competitive retail environment.
