Rain and Snow Forecasted for Boston & New England

Bryan Dijkhuizen

Today, a weak cold front will travel southward into the area, but a weak high-pressure system will deliver dry and seasonable weather to the region.

After passing off late tonight into Wednesday early, a coastal storm will arrive in New England and deliver rain to the southeast region.

In addition, pockets of snow are expected farther inland.

Following that, dry, windy, and colder temperatures will prevail Wednesday night into Thursday, with the possibility of a short spell of light snow/flurries late Thursday night into Friday morning.

Even though low pressure traveling into the Great Lakes will most likely deliver rain to the area Friday night into Christmas Day, some snow and ice are possible at the outset, mainly in the interior.

Although the winds near the coast are still strong this morning, it is not expected to persist in this manner for long. There have been no notable changes to the prediction due to this update.

Rain will blanket Southeast New England late tonight and through Wednesday morning, with pockets of freezing rain likely in the state's interior.

This evening, the next northern stream trough strengthens through the Gt Lakes before rising Northeast into New England on Wednesday morning.

The southern stream wave along the Southeast United States coast is projected to travel Northeast overnight and pass south and east of the benchmark early Wednesday morning.
