Van Vicker is one of the most handsome men to ever grace the Ghanaian screens. His ability to interpret a character in movies is what makes his fans adore him. But first, let's talk about his journey.

Joseph Van Vicker was born to a Dutch father and a Liberian/Ghanaian mother on the 1st of August 1977 in Accra. He spent his years growing up with his mother who took him around the world. Van considers himself a global citizen because of his travels. His father, however, died when little Van Vicker was just 6 years old. Thus, he proclaims his mother as a hero for giving him an upbring which never made him notice the absence of his father.

Vicker attended the Mfantsipim Senior High School in Cape. While there, basketball was his joy. There was once an occasion where he injured his ankle and had to go home for treatment. It was on that bus on the 2nd of May 1994 that he met Adjoa who is currently his wife.

In an interview with KSM, the couple disclosed that their first meeting wasn't exactly nice. Van had entered a bus at Cape Coast only to find a girl sitting at his favourite spot on the bus. When he sat beside her, she offered him a Hask toffee which he quickly rejected. Adjoa felt he was being unnecessarily rude. But on the drive to Accra, Van had been filled with guilt for his rudeness.

When the bus arrived in Accra, an elderly man asked Adjoa to help Van who seemed to be in pain to get a car. That was Van's Opportunity to make things right with his "would-be love".

With a piece of paper from a tea bread seller, Adjoa gave out her school address and that was how they grew fond of each other.

Van Vicker debuted in the media in 1997 when Adjoa heard of a job opening at TV3 Ghana. Eventually, Van Vicker made his debut as a Television personality until 1999. He then went on to work for Groove Fm as a presenter for a year.  Vibe FM was also blessed with this talent for a year.

Joseph's first movie debut was on a series named Sun City. From the beginning of his career, Van has endeavoured to live a character as best as he could. His role in Sun City depicted a young man born in the US who had come to Sun City to study Fine Arts. Coincidentally, Van Vicker had the perfect American accent for the role.

In his first movie Divine love, Van Vicker played the supporting role of two lead roles who were Majid Michel and Jackie Appiah which was a debut for them all. It seemed a bond may have been built because this trio has worked on many more projects together quite comfortably.

Van Vicker, as his fans would say, is a fine specimen of a man. His looks, his poise, his voice - all worked into a man who was every woman's dream. His attributes got him acting romantic lead roles alongside Tonto Dikeh, Stephanie Okereke, Mercy Johnson, and the likes of them.

Now married, the perfection of his roles in movies always had people questioning his wife. They would ask how she felt about her husband getting cosy with women on set. But the question was always "how do you feel when your husband goes to work?" and her never-failing reply was "how do you feel when your husband goes to work too?".

The peace of mind at home got Van Vicker working on his dreams to become a Film Director and an award-winning actor.

In 2009, he won the Afro-Hollywood award as the best actor in the African film category. From 2011 to 2013, Van won 4 awards from Pan African Film Festival, the 2013 Ghana Movie Awards and the Papyrus Magazine screen actors awards. These awards also included one from Nafca as the best actor and director for the movie Joni Waka.

Van Vicker has also blessed the local film industry, Kumawood with his talent which got him awarded Best Collaboration for the movie, Broni W'awu.

As a family man of three beautiful children, Van Vicker established a Film Production house called Sky+Orange production which boasts of the award-winning Joni Waka.

As an entrepreneur, Van also owns a film acting training centre, named the Van Vicker Training Centre.

He also has a foundation, the Van Vicker Foundation which reaches out to youth in need of immediate assistance.

As a proud past student of the Mfantsipim Senior High School, Van Vicker in 2016 went back to Cape Coast to launch the Van Vicker Foundation Club.

It is a Non-Government Organization aimed at inspiring and empowering the youth with knowledge, talent, and skills to achieve their dreams.

In his own words, he said that: "leadership can be taught. I believe in the VVFC movement. The movement to inspire and empower the youth to be future leaders who exhibit excellence".

He also recently opened a wonderful restaurant, in partnership with his wife. It’s already getting all the attention it deserves.

Because Joseph Van Vicker has lived a very private life, Ghanaians don't know much about him aside from the information he volunteers during interviews. However, Van Vicker is said to be one of the richest and influential actors in the Ghanaian movie industry with a whopping 4.5 million dollars as net worth.

Having been married for 18 years, the actor's life and achievements depict how possible it is to achieve one's dream. The father of 3 travels to work but has still built a strong bond with his wife and kids.

Although things may have slowed down, for the time being, Van Vicker is still one of Ghana's legends.

And he will forever remain one of the brightest shiny stars who took the Ghanaian movie industry to the world.
