Cleveland, OH - Community members will come together to remember the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and the civil rights movement.

Dr. King was a Black Baptist Preacher and civil rights, activist. He became one of the most visible spokesmen and leaders in American history. King believed that nonviolence was vital. Dr. King stated, "hate begets hate; violence begets violence; toughness begets a greater toughness. We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love."

As the community reflects on the legacy of Dr. King, there will be several events going on around the Cleveland area. On Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 3 pm, former executive committee chairperson Donna Walker-Brown and the Inner City Republican Movement will host "Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. The keynote speaker for the event will be Ohio Businessman Bernie Moreno. Moreno was born in Bogota, Columbia. At five years old, he moved to the United States and became a U.S. citizen at 18.

According to his website, Moreno loved cars. When he was 14, he wrote a letter to the president of General Motors with suggestions for improving the company. The president responded. A few years later, he offered Moreno an intern. Moreno worked his way up the ladder. Many years later, Moreno became one of the most successful car dealers in the United States of America based in Ohio. "It's not always about the color of a person's skin. Moreno is a true example of the American Dream. He pulled himself up by his bootstraps . Our community, the black community needs to hear his story-his triumph," says Walker-Brown. Moreno is a candidate for the U.S. Senate.

There will be special performances by Obie Shelton and the Conwell & Footprint Band. Chef Tony of Zanzibar will provide the meals. The event is at the Greater Mt. Calvary COGIC 10109 Nelson Ave. Cleveland, OH 44105

Masks are provided, and social distancing is a must.
