Maple Heights, OH. The City of Maple Heights will be swearing in one new councilperson on January 5, 2022. The other council members are incumbents who were able to retain their elected seats during the last election. As other cities are opting out of an in-person ceremonial, the City of Maple Heights continues to ponder. According to Councilwoman Dana D Anderson, the council is waiting for Jackson to make a decision. Anderson stated, "Jackson told me last evening that he is waiting to see what the Maple Heights School Board says. We are racing against time, this may be too short of a notice."

Last week, Mayor-Elect Justin Bibb of the City of Cleveland decided against a public ceremonial. Bibb warned residents about the COVID surge and the impact on Northeast, Ohioans. Bibb's ceremony was scheduled for Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 2 pm at the Cleveland Public Hall. Although attendees were required to wear a mask and show proof of having been vaccinated, the in-person event was canceled.

We attempted to contact Council President Ron Jackson via phone. Jackson responded via text and stated, he was still undecided at this time. "When the final decision is made after talking with all who are involved, I will send an update," stated Jackson.

Annette. M Blackwell, Mayor of Maple Heights offered her assessment regarding the spread of COVID. Blackwell stated that this is not her decision. This decision lies with the Council President. She further stated, "Maple Heights schools are closed due to COVID. Given the school's reactions, it would be reasonable to follow best practices. The schools are closed to our children, and maybe they should be closed to the public as well. When our region is better and there is less worry, there can always be another ceremony."

Ron Jackson is the council president of Maple Heights. He is serving his second 4-year term as council president. The Swearing-in is scheduled for January 5, 2022, at Maple Heights High School.
