The latest polling results are in and they show that New York’s interim Governor, who once held a huge lead over Republican challenger Lee Zeldin, is now in a statistical dead-heat with him
With less than a month to go before November’s pivotal mid-term gubernatorial election, the embattled incumbent, Democrat Kathy Hochul, who was unceremoniously placed in the position after New York’s disgraced elected Governor Andrew Cuomo was forced to resign amidst a bevy of sexual harassment allegations, has seen the generous lead in the polls wither to a virtual tie over the last few weeks of the campaign.
There are many possible reasons for this, not the least of which probably have something to do with the incumbent's controversial policies and plans, particularly in regards to cash bail and gun control laws, but may also be seeing the after-effects of the attempted murder of GOP challenger Zeldin while at an outdoor campaign rally where numerous onlookers had to rush to the candidate's aid and restrain a crazed man approaching him on stage with a sharp object while making threats.
The most recent poll, conducted by The Trafalgar Group, a poll with a 2.9 % +/- margin of error, shows that the once comfortably leading interim governor, who was actually placed as Lt. Governor by Cuomo, and who took over the job after his forced resignation, has now seen that lead all but evaporate to within a mere 2 percentage points.
And while two points is well within the poll’s margin for error, there are also some 9.7% of the respondents polled who declared that they are still unsure of how they are going to vote. That group alone is clearly enough to decide this pivotal election.
