30-year-old NFL linebacker Barkevious Mingo found himself in hot water after being arrested Thursday, accused of alleged indecency with a child.

Arlington police booked Mingo into Tarrant County with a $25,000 bond. He spent the night in jail and was bailed out the next morning.

The Falcons' player faces up to 20 years as the incident involved alleged sexual contact.

The Falcons' management response stated,

"Our organization became aware of the allegations involving Barkevious Mingo today and are currently gathering information on this incident. The Falcons take the allegations very seriously and will continue to monitor the situation." -David Bassity, Atlanta Falcons' Vice President for Football Communications

However, the Falcons' lawyer, Lukas Garcia, had quite a different mindset. Reporter Ian Rapoport tweeted Garcia's response,

"The allegations out of Tarrant County against my client are completely baseless. Barkevious Mingo is innocent. At this stage, our side has very limited information. What we do know is these allegations are from over two years ago and are completely untrue. Mr. Mingo is the victim of a false claim, and we believe this is motivated by money or some other ulterior motive. We are confident when the truth comes to light, my client will be fully exonerated."

The alleged incident is said to have happened on July 4, 2019, when Mingo invited two teenage fans to spend time with him, per Sports Illustrated. The boys were taken shopping, to Six Flags Over Texas, and out to eat. After, they all went to Mingo's hotel room. At one point during the night, Mingo allegedly pulled one of the boys' underwear down and sexually assaulted him.

The incident was reported in January 2021. The Arlington Police Department Crimes Against Children Unit are actively investigating the case. One Arlington police detective states,

"...evidence will corroborate with the victim's statements."
