(Denver, CO) Denver International Airport announced that a reservation system to help passengers get through security faster is here to stay.

The airport, the third busiest globally, launched the DEN Reserve program in partnership with CLEAR earlier this year, allowing passengers to reserve a dedicated time slot to go through the Bridge TSA Security Checkpoint. The free system provides a more predictable experience in the security line.

When the program launched in June, it surpassed airport officials' expectations, with nearly 100 percent of the reservations booked daily and more than 4,900 bookings.

DIA is now among 17 other airport locations in the United States, Canada and Europe using the appointment-based system.

Travelers can book their reservation as early as three days before their flight. One hitch: The reservation line doesn’t have PreCheck perks, so PreCheck customers still need to go through the screening rigamarole of removing their shoes and removing their laptops from their bags.

However, DEN Reserve could save you time at the airport, and there’s been a lot of jogging on the concourses lately as people spend extra time in the security lines during the busy summer travel seasons.

Security lines at DIA have been so long this summer that they’ve snaked around baggage claim carousels. (Even with TSA PreCheck and a CLEAR membership—both programs meant to expedite the screening process—I had a 30-minute wait this week during the 5 a.m. hour.)

“We are always looking for innovative and fresh ways to serve our passengers and improve their journey through our airport,” said DEN CEO Phil Washington in a press release.

“Travel demand is exceeding pre-pandemic levels and it is critical we provide a variety of options for passengers to get to their gates efficiently and timely. We’re enhancing the Great Hall and building two new security checkpoints, and DEN Reserve is yet another way we’re improving the passenger experience.”
