(Denver, Colo) You know the expression: There’s no place quite like home for the holidays.

So, if you’re looking for a festive getaway close to home, you’ll find several Denver-area hotels that have decked the halls and make for a fun homebase while you go on a Christmas pop-up bar crawl or check out the Mile High Tree (which is the largest digital tree in the country).

Ahead, five December in Denver staycation ideas.

Gaylord Rockies Resort: So. Much. Christmas.

The motto at the Gaylord Rockies is “So. Much. Christmas” because the resort has all kinds of holiday programming, from a holiday cirque show with trapeze and juggling acts to an outdoor adventure park with snow tubing and a “build and blast” snowball game.

The hotel also welcomed back its ICE exhibit this year, bringing in more than three dozen artisans from Harbin, China, known as the world's ice carving capital.

The exhibit has a dozen scenes from “Charlie Brown Christmas” and a large ice slide. Find family photo opportunities throughout the resort, from inside the icy Peanuts exhibit to the grandiose Christmas tree at the center of the hotel.

The “Catbird and Chill” holiday experience allows guests to make the most of the drop-down 4K Ultra HD Projectors that are in each room. You’ll get a holiday movie bingo card that’s rife with Hallmark cliches, plus popcorn, movie candy and hot chocolate kits.

If you can peel yourself out of bed, the rooftop Red Barber bar is ultra festive and has cocktails like a frozen eggless eggnog and baked apple daiquiris.

In the heart of the neighborhood, Hotel Clio matches the festive vibes. The hotel holds wreath-making workshops with Madelyn Claire Floral Design and weekly caroling performances by The Yuletide Carolers.
