(Denver, Colo) You know the expression: There’s no place quite like home for the holidays.
So, if you’re looking for a festive getaway close to home, you’ll find several Denver-area hotels that have decked the halls and make for a fun homebase while you go on a Christmas pop-up bar crawl or check out the Mile High Tree (which is the largest digital tree in the country).
Ahead, five December in Denver staycation ideas.
Gaylord Rockies Resort: So. Much. Christmas.
The motto at the Gaylord Rockies is “So. Much. Christmas” because the resort has all kinds of holiday programming, from a holiday cirque show with trapeze and juggling acts to an outdoor adventure park with snow tubing and a “build and blast” snowball game.
The hotel also welcomed back its ICE exhibit this year, bringing in more than three dozen artisans from Harbin, China, known as the world's ice carving capital.
The exhibit has a dozen scenes from “Charlie Brown Christmas” and a large ice slide. Find family photo opportunities throughout the resort, from inside the icy Peanuts exhibit to the grandiose Christmas tree at the center of the hotel.
Kimpton Hotel Born: Home Suite Home Package
If you have friends or family coming into town, Kimpton Hotel Born at Denver’s Union Station launched a Home Suite Home lodging package that combines four adjacent rooms, including the swank Presidential Suite, to accommodate groups of 10 people.
All of the rooms are located on the 12th floor and the package comes with a family meal dinner provided by Citizen Rail, the on-site restaurant. The package also includes valet parking for four vehicles, morning coffee service and welcome amenities, including a Hotel Born blanket. The package rate is $5,280 per night and needs to be booked a week in advance.
Catbird Hotel: Movie Marathon
If your idea of the holidays is snuggling up in bed with snacks and binge watching Hallmark Christmas movies, the Catbird Hotel is just the hotel for you.
The “Catbird and Chill” holiday experience allows guests to make the most of the drop-down 4K Ultra HD Projectors that are in each room. You’ll get a holiday movie bingo card that’s rife with Hallmark cliches, plus popcorn, movie candy and hot chocolate kits.
If you can peel yourself out of bed, the rooftop Red Barber bar is ultra festive and has cocktails like a frozen eggless eggnog and baked apple daiquiris.
Hotel Clio: Wreath-Making and Caroling
Cherry Creek North is decked out with more than a million lights that illuminate 600 trees, has interactive light displays plus hosts a holiday market with one-of-a-kind pieces from local artisans and makers as part of its Winter Wanderland celebrations.
In the heart of the neighborhood, Hotel Clio matches the festive vibes. The hotel holds wreath-making workshops with Madelyn Claire Floral Design and weekly caroling performances by The Yuletide Carolers.
Plus, Toro Latin Kitchen & Lounge inside the hotel offers a prix fixe menu on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day that includes clam corn chowder, turkey roulade with a Christmas stuffing and cranberry-mezcal gravy and a Red Wine Pear Tart with pumpkin ice cream.
Hilton Denver Inverness: Blazing Bright Pop-Up Bar
The Hilton Denver Inverness goes all out for the holidays with twinkling trees and a life-sized housemade gingerbread cottage on display in the lobby.
What’s more, the “Blazing Bright” holiday pop-up bar features charcuterie boards, festive cocktails and light bites plus a “Bah Humbug Hot Cocoa” bar with boozy add ons and trimmings.
Oversized ornaments, plus wreaths and holiday decor make it a festive happy hour or night cap spot. Reservations are recommended and the bar is open Tuesdays through Saturdays until Dec. 31.
