(Greeley, Colo) What do you get when a brewery collaborates with a leading Halloween company that makes masks and animatronics for haunted houses and scary movie sets? An eerie sour beer called “Rex’s Revenge” whose muse is a toothy gremlin.

WeldWerks Brewing Co. has teamed up with Distortions Unlimited to create the ruby red sour ale that’s brewed with cherry and vanilla.

But you don’t have to wait until it's spooky season to claw open this beer as WeldWerks is releasing Rex’s Revenge on Aug. 19, just in time for Greeley’s annual Monster Day on Aug. 20.

During the monster mash, costumed monsters roam downtown and there are professional makeup demonstrations, a costume contest, face painting and kids’ activities as well as opportunities to take photos with some of Distortions Unlimited’s creepy creations.

Distortions Unlimited is a Greeley-based creative studio that’s been making props, masks, and monsters for theme parks, haunted houses and horror movies since 1978. The nightmare factory has been featured on the reality show “Making Monsters” that aired on The Travel Channel.

Every year, Distortions Unlimited creates a Greeley Gremlin for Monster Day. Since the brewers at WeldWerks are horror buffs, they created the beer to match this year’s pot-bellied gremlin.

“We thought that cherry vanilla would offer a nice red hue like Rex while also providing a late summer flavor that many will enjoy,” says WeldWerks Head Brewer Skip Schwartz.

For every draft pint of Rex’s Revenge sold, $1 will be donated to Monster Day’s beneficiary Don’t Be a Monster, a national nonprofit that organizes programs to raise awareness about bullying prevention for students in schools throughout the U.S.

The beer will be available in cans and on draft at participating bars, restaurants and liquor stores in Northern Colorado and Boulder. Check the brewery’s beer finder for more information on availability.
