The following story is every parent’s worst nightmare. Following a night of fun and trick-or-treating, authorities in Sayreville, New Jersey are urging parents to check their children’s candy bags before allowing their kids to have any after a Clonazepam (Klonopin or Rivotril) pill was found inside a bag decorated with candy corns in the candy haul of a trick-or-treater in the Park Village area of Sayreville.
Upon checking their child’s Halloween candy bag, parents called Sayreville authorities. SPD is now investigating the report of the child who received Halloween candy along with the prescription medication. The pill was placed into a ‘Ziploc’ style bag decorated with candy corns and passed out with traditional Halloween candy to unsuspecting trick-or-treaters.
Sayreville Police Department is asking anyone with information, or anyone who has also received a similar hand-out, to contact Detective Pascone with the Sayreville Police Department at 732-525-5420, or to contact the SPD directly at 732-727-4444.
