Following a magnitude 6.6 earthquake in the Pacific, a tsunami threat was issued for California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii along the west coast of the United States and Canada. Within a few hours following the initial earthquake, all threats of a tsunami were retracted and the warning was dialed back to a notification.
Since California is amongst the most significant points of impact if a tsunami were triggered by a seismic event in the Pacific, California’s earthquake and tsunami response systems have been some of the first to assess the risk.
