No need to panic, the following 'micro-earthquakes' have been examined due to their shallow depth. Shallow earthquakes are felt more than deeper earthquakes since the seismic waves have less space to travel.

While earthquakes along California’s San Andreas Fault are normal, the following earthquakes have shaken things up. Since the earthquakes reported below are mostly microquakes, they didn’t have a major impact. Despite this, they were all noted to have been significant (by USGS) due to how shallow they were.

The following earthquakes have been documented byΒ USGS,Β CalTech, andΒ EarthquakeTrack, three credible and globally-recognized seismic activity monitoring systems. UTC is an abbreviation for Coordinated Universal Time.

Magnitude 3.1 Earthquake Struck 6 km Northeast of Sierra Madre, California: On 8 June 2023 at 10:08 PM UTC, a magnitude 3.1 earthquake struck Sierra Madre, California, at a depth of 14.1 km.

Magnitude 2.8 Earthquake Struck 92 km West of Petrolia, California: On 8 June 2023 at 7:41 PM UTC, a magnitude 2.8 earthquake struck Petrolia, California, at a depth of 24 km.

Magnitude 2.6 Earthquake Struck 58 km West of Petrolia, California: On 8 June 2023 at 12:17 PM UTC, a magnitude 2.6 earthquake struck Petrolia, California, at a depth of 14.7 km.

Magnitude 2.6 Earthquake Struck 6 km West Northwest of Round Valley, California: On 9 June 2023 at 12:57 AM UTC, a magnitude 2.6 earthquake struck Round Valley, California, at a depth of 2.6 km.

Magnitude 2.5 Earthquake Struck 5 km Northeast of Beaumont, California: On 7 June 2023 at 6:03 AM UTC, a magnitude 2.5 earthquake struck Beaumont, California, at a depth of 4.3 km.

Magnitude 2.6 Earthquake Struck Central California: On 7 June 2023 at 2:13 AM UTC, a magnitude 2.6 earthquake struck Central California at a depth of 7 km.

Magnitude 2.6 Earthquake Struck 6 km Northeast of Sierra Madre, California: On 8 June 2023 at 10:09 PM UTC, a magnitude 2.6 earthquake struck Sierra Madre, California, at a depth of 16.2 km.

Magnitude 2.5 Earthquake Struck 3 km East Southeast of Carson, California: On 8 June 2023 at 10:31 AM UTC, a magnitude 2.5 earthquake struck Carson, California, at a depth of 11.2 km.

Residents In New Jersey Urged To Stay Indoors During Spraying Of Toxic Chemicals

Residents in Central New Jersey are being asked to stay indoors on Thursday, 7 September (today,) and Monday, 11 September, due to the release of toxic chemicals in an attempt to mitigate a mosquito crisis in the region. The Mosquito Extermination Commission of Middlesex County announced the use of the chemicals Prallethrin (Sumithrin), Deltamethrin (DeltaGard), Malathion (Fyfanon), and Etofenprox (Zenivex) in the communities of Old Bridge, Monroe, East Brunswick, Helmetta, and Spotswood. The Mosquito Extermination Commission says, β€œPlan your activities to limit time spent outside during times of possible insecticide treatments. Move your pets, their food, and water dishes inside during application. Also, bring clothing and children’s toys inside. Whenever possible, remain indoors with windows closed and with window air conditioners on non-vent (closed to the outside air) and window fans turned off during spraying. Avoid direct contact with surfaces that are still wet from pesticide spraying. Do not allow children to play in areas that have been sprayed until they have completely dried (approximately one hour.)” Weather permitting, the spraying will be performed between 6:30 PM and midnight. If it rains on 11 September, the county has scheduled the procedure for the following day. The Mosquito Extermination Commission further outlines, β€œIf you must remain outdoors, avoid eye and skin contact with the spray. If you get spray in your eyes or on your skin, immediately flush and rinse with water. Consult your doctor if you think you are experiencing health effects from the spraying. People who suffer from chemical sensitivities or feel spraying may aggravate a preexisting health condition may consult their physician or local health department.” More information regarding plans to spray for mosquitos can be found here: https://www.middlesexcountynj.gov/government/departments/department-of-public-safety-and-health/middlesex-county-mosquito-commission/public-notice-for-adult-mosquito-control-treatment-spray-notice.
