A woman is mourning the death of her four-month-old daughter, who was found unresponsive in a hotel room Saturday. According to reports, the child suffered life-threatening injuries consistent with abuse.
Police were called to a Biloxi hotel where officers found the four-month-old baby and immediately transported her to a nearby hospital.
26-year-old Christian Angel Cookmeyer was identified as the person caring for the child at the time. He was found with a felony amount of a controlled substance, and the child was near that substance. It has yet to be said what the substance was.
New Orleans Children’s Hospital treated the child for skull fractures and bleeding on her brain. She passed away shortly before 4 p.m on December 14th.
Cookmeyer was initially charged with felony child abuse, felony possession of a controlled substance, and felony child endangerment, but since the child has passed, those charges have been upgraded to capital murder.
The infant’s mother shared on Facebook that her daughter, Maddison-Jaide, “gained her wings.” She shared in a post dedicated to her child, “It was an honor to meet you and be your mother.”
The innocent child's mother also went live via Facebook and shared with her friends that she is in utter shock as to what happened. She said that Cookmeyer is not the child's father, but was indeed her boyfriend at the time of the incident. She shares that she thought she could trust him. Take a look at the video below:
Maddison-Jaide’s family has set up a GoFundMe to get help with preparing for the little one's funeral expenses. They've also asked for prayers for strenth to get through this. They will hold a balloon release on Tuesday near the Biloxi Lighthouse.
