Jayla Heaven was at a house party on Monday morning, July 4th, at Shultas Place in Hartford, Connecticut. The police confirm that she was killed during a shooting that broke out during the party.

Jayla's friends and family are outraged and gave statements to Fox 61 when reached for comment. They say that "it was a senseless, tragic thing to happen and we're just asking that whoever knows something come forward," because the shooter is still at large as of July 8. The Police also confirm that another man in his 20s was also caught in the shooting, but that neither of them were the intended targets. Jayla was shot unintentionally and unfortunately killed in the altercation.

The friends and family of Jayla Heaven started a vigil and did a candle lighting in her honor. Many mourn the loss of Jayla Heaven. Her cousin, Jacqueline Gaston-Thomas, spoke openly about her cousin. "She could cook, she did it all. [...] there was nothing Jayla couldn't do," [Fox61].

The unfortunate reality is that she shooter is still at large, so the family and police are hopeful that someone will come forward. Her older sister, Ahsile Fearon, said that "we want to know who the person is and bring him to justice because at the end of the day, it's my baby sister," [Fox61].

Fox61 reporters reached the Hartford Police Department for comment on the case, and they confirmed that no one is currently in custody for this case. The investigation is ongoing, so the tip line is still open at 860-722-8477.
