As I move about the community, I have the honor of meeting a variety of local freelancers and business owners. In our interactions, I am able to learn a lot about the scope of their work.

Recently, I was introduced to Skyla Ahlden, a local freelance face painter. When shared what she did, I immediately wanted to hear more. I wanted to know what it’s really like working as a freelance face painter and asked Skyla for an interview.

But, before we jump into the interview, let’s discuss what is a freelance face painter. A freelance face painter is an individual who is experienced in drawing a variety of images on the faces of children and adults and works on their own according to their schedule.

According to My Freelancer Guide, “Face painting is an ideal option for a freelance business because you don’t need to spend a lot of money on materials. You can get the essential face painting equipment without spending a huge amount of money”.

Now that we have covered what is a freelance face painter, let’s jump into the interview.

Magic and Monsters Face Painting

How did you get started?

Face painting is something that I have been doing for four years. I really wanted to be able to share my gift with the world! So, I did some research and figured out how I can turn my passion into a business.

What motivates you to keep going as a freelancer?

The joy on children’s faces once they see the face painted! Also, all the friends I have made while face painting. I meet friends in places like face painting Facebook groups.

What has been your most enjoyable part of face painting?

Seeing the kids get excited about getting their faces painted, also being able to do something I am passionate about as a job.
