The WGCL 98.7 FM radio station centered out of Bloomington, Ind. lost a legendary color sports commentator and former athlete at Bloomington High School South according to the Bloomington Herald Times’ Jim Gordillo.

Just last night, it was reported that longtime color commentator, Terry Stults passed away on the night of Sunday, March 19, in his sleep.

Stults was on hand for many high school and college athletic events around the Bloomington and Monroe County area covering sports for WGCL radio, usually sitting next to the legendary announcer Joe Smith during football and basketball events.

Gordillo said in a tweet sent at 5:45 pm this afternoon, Stults was also a standout athlete at Bloomington High School South. The years are unknown as information about Stults is not publicly accessible.

Researching for this article about Stults’ age, birth, and radio career is not seen as information on him is scarce, but many people on Gordillo’s tweet gave nothing but praise for his work in the community, and the man he was on and off of the microphone.

Kevin Luers, a longtime friend of Stults who would work with Stults at the Black Lumber Company in Bloomington said in response to the tweet, “This is awful news. Terry was a great friend from the Y and wonderful to do business with at Black lumber. Very sad. My condolences to his family.”

Roger Perry, a former student of Bloomington High School South also responded, “Just horrible news. Always enjoyed listening to Terry with Joe and Glass. Terry Loved Bloomington and was very supportive of all athletes in Monroe County. Condolences to His family, Joe, Glass, and the entire WGCL family.”

WGCL has not come out with a public statement or mention of Stults’ funeral arrangements or of his passing. More information will come out once available.
