When you think of iconic foods around America, you probably do not think of Minnesota first. In fact, Minnesota is probably close to one of the last places around the United States for famous dishes.
While the most well known Minnesotan creation is probably the Jucy Lucy, there are many other specialties that came from this humble state in the Midwest.
Jucy Lucy's can be found in almost any bar or pub around Minneapolis but just as often, you can also find Tator Tot Hotdishes in those same places. Tator Tot Hotdishes are an absolutely delicious take on the classic tater tots side dish.
What most call casseroles in many other states, Minnesotans call hotdishes. The Tator Tot hotdish is a potato lover's dream and takes the form of the ideal vessel to shovel crisp crunchy potatoes into your mouth. There is no better guilty pleasure than plopping down at the bar and shoving your face full of these delicious hotdishes.
You can find a Tater Tot Hotdish in many locations across the state but some of the best ones can be found at The Bulldog Restaurant & Bar. This classic American restaurant has successfully combined the flavors of Belgian beer with all of America's traditional foods like hotdogs and hamburgers. There are two locations for Bulldog Restaurant & Bar that can be located in both Lowertown and Downtown where each of them serve a perfectly assembled Tator Tot Hotdish.
The Bulldog in Lowertown can be found at 237 East Sixth Street while Bulldog Uptown is located at 2549 Lyndale Ave S.
Another great place to grab a Tater Tot Hotdish is as The Mason Jar located at 1565 Cliff Rd right around Eagan. The Mason Jar offers amazing family style meals and during the pandemic has extended their wonderful services in the to go format. If you visit their website now you can even order an entire Easter Feast for delivery anytime before April 4th. Alongside that option they also have a regular Sunday Supper meal you can order to go for the entire family. For their Sunday Supper meals, there is a new menu curated each calendar month which will keep any regular customers excited to keep coming back for more.
Another great dish to try out in Minneapolis is the walleye. As the state is aptly named the land of ten thousand lakes, there are plenty of walleye to be caught in the many lakes and rivers along the state. There are many amazing establishments that have taken walleye to a whole new level and is a top favorite for many Minnesotans.
To find some amazingly prepared walleye, you can visit the FireLake Grill House. They are most well known for their walleye dishes which include a fantastic wild rice-crusted dish as well as fritters and burgers all consisting of walleye.
The FireLake Grill House can be found in many locations around the state and even has some locations in other cities such as Chicago. The locations in Minnesota include one at the Mall of America at 2100 Killebrew Drive as well as one in downtown Minneapolis at 31 S 7th St.
This restaurant is an amazing place to visit and dine at. In addition to their walleye dishes, they also offer a huge selections of appetizers, entrees, and cocktails to enjoy with the rest of the family or friends and collegues.
Despite not being known for its food, Minnesota definitely still holds it own with its various innovations on existing traditional american foods like burgers and casseroles. The state also takes advantage of its geography by providing amazing walleye dishes. Definitely do not look down on Minnesota and try out all of these amazing foods.
