You heard that right. Free sandwiches for a very limited time and unfortunately by the time this article goes out, the supply might already be gone.
There is one sandwich factory in Chicago that has amazingly chosen to give out free sandwiches to the first one thousand people to walk through their doors today with a mask on. For many peple that do not know, there is a deli shop downtown that had promised to give away free sandwiches to all customers. This deli shop is called Manny's Deli.
Why did they make this promise?
The reason for Manny's to go so far as to give away free food was because the establishment has been struggling for the duration of the pandemic to enforce a healthy standard mask policy. There were simply too many people not caring enough or going around the rules and regulations.
In order to fix this problem, Manny's Deli decided to challenge its customers to hold out for thirty days without any infractions on their mask policy and in the event that it actually happened, they would give out free sandwiches.
Unfortunately, many people continued to disregard the safety rules and the thirty day counter was continuously being sent back down to day one. Although, Manny's customers are still no closer to making it thirty days without having a safety rule infraction, the challenge set out has prompted a generous individual to donate funds to supply today's free sandwiches on March 30th, 2021. This individual has chosen to stay anonymous but they also gave a wonderful bonus to the large number of hard working individuals working at the mass vaccination site located at Chicago's United Center.
This challenge and many others have been Manny's fight to stay in business during the challenges of the pandemic era. Not just Manny's, but restaurants all around the city are struggling to make due with less people dining out and even staff being in a huge shortage of supply. The vacancies that these restaurants are having to deal with are absolutely brutal to their businesses and could mean the end of many already established restaurants in the scene.
As if the vacancies of customers was not bad enough, many of these restaurants are also struggling to find enough staff to keep their businesses running. As the city continues to loosen up on eating restrictions, many establishments are doubting their abilities to hire enough staff to survive the predicted onslaught of demand.
The unfortunate reality of the situation now is that there are simply too many people in the general public that are holding back the safety of everyone around them. Just the fact that Manny's cannot even get people to properly wear their masks for a short month goes to show just how little precaution some individuals are taking not only for their own safety but the safety of everyone around them.
As the vaccines continue to roll out, it may be a race against time to see whether or not all the vaccines will be administered in time or if the amount of vacancies that restaurants are fighting right now will be a finishing blow for them.
As indoor dining capacities open up during the coming weeks and months, please take every precaution possible in order to maintain not just personal safety but the safety of everyone around and the general public as well. Each of these restaurants as well as all the workers they employ are in dire need of a return to normal living.
Only time will tell what the future might hold for these establishments and best wishes to Manny's.
