The last place you might be able to find the best tacos in Chicago could be the biggest suprise at all as it is not a restaurant or food truck. You will find some of the best tacos in the Midwest in an unassuming grocery store called La Chaparrita Taqueria.
La Chaparrita Taqueria can be found just in front of a small grocery store around Little Village so while many visit the location to get their weekly grocery shopping done, even more patrons visit just for the tacos being cooked right in front of the store.
La Chaparrita is run by one man simply making all sorts of tacos from carne asada all the way to brain or tripe. There are so many options here there is bound to be at least a few you have never even heard of or tried before. Each taco will not be a wrong choice as they are all perfectly cooked and juicy with a balanced flavor profile.
The tacos at La Chaparrita are also similar to birria tacos as the tortillas are coated with a meaty broth before getting slapped onto the grill.
