Squeeze More From Life

How would you like a straightforward way to squeeze the most out of your life? A simple unnoticed pattern exists everywhere, and you use it often without realizing it. Anytime you create something new, whether a simple grocery list or something as complex as your career path, you go through the same process. This process also applies to creating tangible items, such as a table, a painting, or a house. Let's look at how you can use it for something far more important than any object, your life.

The process

Like any process, this method consists of sequential steps. The acronym STAR represents the four steps.

Step 1 – You must SEE it.

Every creation starts with seeing what you want or desire. When you can visualize it (see it in your mind's eye) and imagine it existing, you have taken the first step in creating what you want. The clearer you visualize it, the greater the chance you can create it.

Step 2 – You must THINK about it.

When you have the image of what you want to create in your mind, you can begin using your imagination to refine it. The more it is in your thoughts, the greater the possibility you will obtain or create it. This thought process will help you become clearer about what you want to create in the future. It is the stage you begin planning what to do next. As one of our country's founders said long ago:

"If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail" — Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Planning is imperative for any serious creation in your life.

Step 3 – You must take ACTION.

There are too many times in life when we see what we want and give it a lot of thought but never take the next step of doing something about it. Without action, you will create nothing. Start wherever you are and stay open-minded about adjusting your plans as you move toward what you wish to create. Remember action must follow more action until you arrive at the final creation. Keep looking toward the result, taking one step at a time until you achieve it.

Step 4 – You must RECEIVE it

By taking the first three steps, you will inevitably arrive at the outcome of your creation. If the outcome you desire is the best life possible, you want to create something that continues growing so it can sustain you in the long run. In other words, create something from which you will receive the fruits of your labor on an ongoing basis.

Application in life

"The future is not some place we are going to, but one we are creating." John Schaar (1928-2011)

Let's look at how this process may play out in your life. You can naturally adapt it to anything you wish to create. For this example, let's look at creating a comfortable retirement.

Step 1. How do you SEE your life five years in the future? How do you see your life when you retire at age _____? How do you see life in your final days?

Step 2. THINK about where you want to live, how financially secure you wish to be, who you are with, what you are doing, and any other details you can imagine. Develop a plan that will take you toward what you see at the end of your life from a retirement standpoint. Be sure to lay out some steps along the way to the end.

Step 3. What ACTION(s) can you take both now and in the long run to achieve the lifestyle you wish to create? In taking deliberate action, you will ultimately create what you want. Take action now without delay. Delay is the surest way to negate all of your work to this point.

Step 4. As you RECEIVE (REAP) savings, interest, earnings, growth, and experience in the interim, reinvest it as long as you can. Reinvesting is crucial to the growth of your portfolio and can ultimately lead you to that comfortable, retired lifestyle you desire. It is crucial to keep your eye on the ball and make adjustments as needed. An important part of receiving is appreciating what you create each month and year. The more you appreciate your efforts, the more you will value them, and the better the chance you will maintain your course.

Final thoughts

Using this simple four-step process, you can create anything you wish. Remember the STAR acronym anytime you want to create something, and your chances of creating what you desire will increase significantly.

As stated, this pattern or process is everywhere. Begin looking for it, and you will find that everything you create involves the foundational steps of seeing, thinking, action, and receiving. Why not begin mastering the process today!
