Hobby Lobby Opens at Wilkes-Barre's New Pointe on Mundy Shopping Center

The announcement came early in 2023 that a Hobby Lobby would be coming to the Wilkes-Barre area in the Spring. In a timely fashion, Hobby Lobby announced that the new store opened on May 19. The 45,000-square-foot craft and hobby store is the first for the retailer in Luzerne County.

The Pointe on Mundy is the name of the retail center that the Hobby Lobby store now anchors. The site is centrally located in the Wilkes-Barre retail hub near the Arena Hub Plaza.

Prior to the opening of the new Wilkes-Barre store, Hobby Lobby fans in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area had to travel to Dickson City to find a store. At 45,000 square feet, the Wilkes-Barre store is slightly smaller than Dickson City's 52,000 square foot space. There are also Hobby Lobby locations in Hazleton and Williamsport.

Hobby Lobby was founded in Oklahoma as a $600 start-up selling picture frames. Today there are 900 Hobby Lobby stores and an online store selling more than 70,000 items. Hobby Lobby sells supplies for crafts and hobbies including woodworking, needlework, candlemaking, dollhouses and miniatures, jewelry, candlemaking, soapmaking, scrapbooking, and more. Hobby Lobby stores tend to be unique among other craft and hobby retailers due to their home decor sections which feature wall decor, artificial plants, and small furniture. Of course, premade frames and custom framing are still a big part of the retailer's offerings.

The Hobby Lobby Wilkes-Barre store hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. All Hobby Lobby stores are closed on Sundays.

The Pointe on Mundy will also be home to a new Duck Donuts which is listed as "coming soon" on its website.

Masks are now optional in all areas at Geisinger for patients and employees who do not have COVID. Purrfect Mugs in Plains Township is adding an extension to its cat den. When Purrfect Mugs Cat Cafe opened its doors in May 2021, it was the realization of a dream for owner Vikki Kenyon.
