In a press release, the California State Lottery reported that a 7-Eleven convenience store in San Leandro had recently sold a jackpot prize ticket.
The ticket was for the Neon Cash Party scratcher game and was worth $5,000,000. The state lottery identified the lucky winner as lottery player Baltazar Hernandez-Jimenez.
“Be the Life of the Party”
The tag line for the Neon Cash Party scratcher game is “Be the Life of the Party.” After scoring the top prize of $5 million, the San Leandro winner could indeed live up to this motto.
The scratcher price for this game is $20 and offers players 29 chances to win prizes. Prize amounts range from the ticket price ($20) all the way up to the top prize of $5 million.
As of the publishing of this article, there are several top prizes still available. Five of the seven $5 million prizes are still up for grabs.
The second-place prize is $100,000. Ten of these prizes still remain and 111 prizes worth $10,000 have yet to be claimed.
Odds of winning a $5 million prize are 1 in 2,431,131, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.04.
Entering the “Second Chance” Drawing
With odds like those mentioned above, many players end up with a non-prize-winning ticket. Instead of tossing that ticket in the garbage, the California Lottery offers scratcher players a second way to win money.
It’s called a “Second Chance Drawing,” and like the name implies, it gives players another opportunity to win prizes from their losing tickets.
To win prizes from a Second Chance drawing, you’ll need to register for a California Lottery account. You’ll then submit the codes from your non-winning scratcher tickets.
Here’s the California Lottery’s explanation of the prizes you could win:
“Scratchers 2nd Chance - Your non-winning ticket gives you another opportunity to win up to $25,000 in a weekly draw. Every $1 you spend gives you 1 entry into 2nd Chance drawings. For instance, your non-winning $10 ticket gives you a 2nd Chance code for 10 entries.”
