Who couldn’t use an extra $1 million? Read on for details of this exciting lottery win.
The West Virginia State Lottery just announced in a press release that somebody in the state won a $1 million prize from the March 22, 2023 Powerball drawing. The jackpot was worth an estimated $96.9 million.
Nobody matched all five white ball numbers and the red Powerball number. That means the jackpot for the next Powerball drawing will be an estimated $112 million with a cash value of $60.6 million.
But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t a big winner during the drawing. One ticket holder in West Virginia matched all five white ball numbers to win a second-tier prize worth $1 million.
Who won the $1 million and what were the winning numbers?
As of this writing, we don’t know who the newest millionaire winner is in West Virginia. When the winner claims their prize, the state lottery will likely announce it in a press release.
Just in case you’re holding the winning ticket, you should probably check your numbers. You can do so by going to the lottery website or by watching the March 22 Powerball drawing in this video:
Where in the state was the winning ticket sold?
The grocery store U Save Foods sold the winning West Virginia lottery ticket. You can check the store address in the below map.
How does the Power Play option affect the amount of money won?
Lottery players have the option of selecting the Power Play multiplier for an additional $1 per play.
If you win, then your prize money will increase by two to ten times. The exceptions to this are the grand prize (which will remain the same amount) and the Match 5 prize (which then doubles the amount won).
The winner of the West Virginia Powerball prize did not purchase the Power Play option, so their prize does not double but is $1 million instead.
If you won a big lottery prize, what would you do first?
Maybe take a deep breath and double-check your ticket? Many winners say they can’t believe their eyes and they ask a friend or family member to confirm they did indeed win.
But after that, what would you do? Would you immediately claim your prize at the lottery office? Or would you lay low for a little while and make some plans first?
