Coming in second place has its advantages if you’re a Powerball player. The New York State Lottery issued a press release saying someone in the state was holding a second-place prize ticket for the March 18 drawing.

The Powerball lottery ticket—which matched five numbers—is worth a tidy $1 million. There was no winner for the estimated $77.1 million jackpot. The jackpot will grow to an estimated $86 million for the next drawing.

Who won and what were the winning numbers for the Powerball drawing?

As of this writing, we don’t know the identity of the winning player. We do know the winning numbers drawn. You can find the numbers on the Powerball website or watch the below video of the March 18 drawing:

Where in New York was the winning $1 million ticket purchased?

The winner bought their ticket at a lottery retailer in Brooklyn — Flatbush Gas, Inc. on Flatbush Avenue.

Would you be happy to win $50,000?

That’s not an idle question because there was another big winner in New York for the March 18 Powerball drawing. The New York Lottery reports one player matched four numbers and the Powerball to win $50,000. The third prize ticket was sold at lottery retailer David’s Check Cashing in Manhattan on Amsterdam Avenue.

Yes, it’s a much smaller prize compared to the $1 million second-place prize. But $50,000 is a windfall amount for many of us and certainly worth a trip down to the lottery office to complete your claim.

What’s your favorite lottery game to play?

People in New York love to play the lottery. The lottery website says New York has the biggest and most profitable lottery in North America. In 2021-22, about $3.6 billion of lottery revenue went to support education in the state.
