Check your lottery tickets — three unclaimed prizes worth $150,000 expire soon

Three might be the charm — but there is nothing charming about missing out on a $50,000 windfall. That could be the fate of three Massachusetts lottery ticket holders if they don’t claim their prizes soon.

In April of 2022, tickets sold in three separate Massachusetts Powerball drawings matched four of the five white balls, plus the red Powerball. Each became a winner, but none of the three $50,000 prizes has been claimed as of this writing.

Which Powerball drawings were involved?

The Powerball drawings that sold one of the $50,000 winning tickets were held on the following dates:

  • April 2, 2022
  • April 16, 2022
  • April 30, 2022

When do these winning tickets expire? What happens if no one claims the prizes?

According to the Massachusetts Lottery:

“Powerball prize winners have one year from the date of the drawing to claim prizes. Lottery prizes that expire become part of the net profit that the Mass Lottery returns to the Commonwealth for distribution to all 351 cities and towns.”

Where were the $50,000 winning tickets sold?

All three locations are shown in the following map. Click on the yellow icon to see details for each location.

What were the winning numbers?

The winning numbers are shown in the following Powerball drawing videos:

The Powerball multiplier numbers were two, three, and five

It isn’t clear from the Massachusetts Lottery’s news item whether the Powerball option was purchased with any of the soon-to-be expired drawings.

Since the prizes are listed at $50,000 each, which is the prize amount without the Powerball option, it seems likely that none of the tickets included the Powerball multiplier. If so, this is a shame, since the prizes could have been $100,000, $150,000, and $250,000 rather than “just” $50,000.

Did you buy a Powerball ticket in Massachusetts last April?

Sure, it’s a long shot. But it’s easy enough to forget something like that, since most of them don’t win anything. If any of those locations on the map ring any bells, you might want to take another look around. A $50,000 surprise would make anyone’s day.
