Miami's hottest new restaurant HaSalon may have been born in Tel Aviv, but it was made for the Magic City.
At least according to Major Food Group — the restauranteurs behind NYC favorites Carbone and ZZ's Clam Bar — who announced earlier this month they'd be opening a Miami Beach outpost of the world-renowned restaurant originally founded by chef Eyal Shani.
And it seems they were correct. The restaurant, which officially opened in late November, is already booked solid, according to Resy. That makes it among the most difficult restaurants in Miami to get a table outside the group's other establishment, Carbone Miami.
As the creative force behind some of America’s most celebrated restaurants, HaSalon is part of the group's continued South Florida expansion. Reportedly, there are more to come.
In the span of a decade, Major Food Group has grown into one of the most acclaimed hospitality groups in the world. They have pioneered a celebratory style of dining at such iconic restaurants as Carbone and The Grill, forged groundbreaking partnerships with leading designers and luxury brands, and opened The Ludlow Hotel in Manhattan and The Newbury Boston.
Since 2020, the company has expanded into several markets, from South Florida to Paris, while exploring new ventures like the private membership venue ZZ’s Club in Miami and The Crown Club at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
To date, the group has been awarded a total of 18 stars from The New York Times and three from the Michelin Guide for its businesses located in New York City, Miami, Boston, Las Vegas, Hong Kong, Paris, and Tel Aviv including concepts like Sadelle’s, Dirty French, Parm, Contessa, and The Lobster Club.
In addition to building renowned restaurants, the group is proud of its support of various social causes and partnership with the Robin Hood Foundation, one of New York City’s most important forces in the fight against poverty.
With HaSalon Miami now open inside the former home of iconic Miami Beach institution, China Grill, the project marks a groundbreaking collaboration between the two industry leaders.
Led by co-founders Mario Carbone, Jeff Zalaznick, and Rich Torrisi, Major Food Group first established roots in Miami at the beginning of 2021 with two successful establishments — their beloved Italian eatery, Carbone, located in the South of Fifth neighborhood, and the private membership venue, ZZ’s Club, situated in the Miami Design District.
"HaSalon is simply legendary," says Zalaznick. "We fell in love with the concept years ago. Now, we finally get to bring this concept stateside. The restaurant is a one-of-kind concept born in Israel, but is made for Miami."
HaSalon Miami Beach has found its home in one of the city's most storied locations at 404 Washington Avenue, which for nearly two decades was home to China Grill. The address is a fitting showcase for the theatrics and widely acclaimed Israeli cuisine that have come to define the HaSalon brand at its outposts in Tel Aviv, New York City, and Ibiza.
"Everyone who comes to HaSalon for the first time tells me that they’ve never had an experience like it," says Shani, a MasterChef judge and restaurateur with over 30 ventures to his name. "The mood gets more and more energetic and convivial as the night goes on and guests get comfortable, but one thing never changes: the line of cooks working very quietly, very consciously, on their food."
Shani is well-known for his flair and each of his restaurants offers a high-energy atmosphere. In the heart of Miami Beach, the HaSalon team will work from an open kitchen decorated with a bounty of ingredients — a HaSalon signature feature. HaSalon's dining room allows a view of the open kitchen and provides an interactive setting as cooks prepare the food they groove to the rhythm of the blaring music.
The seasonal menu reflects optimal picks from Shani’s private organic farm, as well as the products of local fishermen and butchers. Although the menu changes daily, expect to watch as a team of cooks prepare bright salads, vibrant vegetable dishes, hearty pastas, and a variety of show-stopping meat and fish courses meant for sharing.
Signature dishes include whole fish preparations, giant lamb kebabs, and steaks. Menu selections will change according to the seasons and the restaurant’s restless creativity, but their famous emphasis on generosity and bold flavors will remain constant.
