An international concept known as a “gastro gaming” lounge will open its first stateside location in South Florida later this month.
Known as Oche — pronounced like “hockey” without the "h" — the concept combines chef-driven cuisine and craft cocktails with a variety of dart-themed games. The food-and-fun experience will be located at 200 South Pointe Drive in Miami's South of Fifth neighborhood, and is the first to open following locations in Oslo, Amsterdam, Brisbane, and Gothenburg.
The Norway-born Oche gives darts an entirely new meaning. The entertainment venue pairs its gaming booths with a large menu of food and drink, making it a much different experience from the average dive sports bar. That combination, its creators say, makes it the perfect destination for happy hours, milestone celebrations, corporate events, or dinner with friends. Think those axe-throwing beer bars that were all the rage a few years ago (we're guessing this is a little safer).
"We’re excited to bring our one-of-a-kind experience to the Miami community," says Oche CEO Troy Warfield. "This area's energetic atmosphere is the perfect destination for the first US location of our concept."
Named for the line dart players stand behind when throwing, Oche Miami will have a total of 13 booths with tech-driven dart games (guests can reserve these booths for up to 85 minutes). The brand's proprietary technology makes darts simple and fun, adds Warfield, even for the most novice player, while private and semi-private game rooms offer the same experience in a setting optimized for parties and corporate events.
Unlike most sports or entertainment-themed eateries, Oche's menu is meant to go beyond basic pub-style fare, instead attempting to offer what Warfield terms a more "elevated dining experience."
The menu has been curated by executive chef Niels van Halen, a former chef at the Michelin Star restaurant De Hoefslag in the Netherlands, and Norwegian champion chef Michael Lunga. Dishes are inspired by the flavors of Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Highlights include the Sweet Chili Prawns Mofongo, which is perfect for guests craving something spicy, and the deliciously tender Wagyu Burger, which features an avocado-and-cheddar chipotle mayo.
Oche’s cocktail program is curated by well-known local beverage director, David Ortiz, who offers a variety of innovative drinks created just for Oche. Guests can sip on the refreshing Mango Tip, made with tequila, mango liqueur, lime, agave and tajin; or try something sweet like the Tamarind Sling, made with vodka, tamarind, chocolate bitters, and agave.
Oche is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight, and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Oche is located at 200 South Pointe Dr. For more information visit oche.com or follow @ochemiamibeach on Instagram.
