When you become a mother your first instinct is to protect your children and yourself, when you feel something is off or dangerous.

As a mother, you know when danger presents itself and you naturally come up with ways to get your babies out safe and protect yourself as well.

That is exactly what this Detroit mother did before she went missing, she made sure that someone knew she was in danger and all she wanted was her child to be safe.

In an article from Fox 2 News called "Young mom missing for two weeks found dead on Detroit's east side" by Jessica Dupnack stated

"It's been two weeks since Brandy Nelson was last seen alive by friends and family in Detroit but her story came to a tragic end Tuesday night when her body was found on the city's east side.

The family told Fox 2 they suspect foul play in the young woman's death after she was found dead near a garage off Drexel near Chandler Park Drive late Tuesday.

Her cousin, Carla Hardwick, said she got to the area as fast as possible but police had taped it off.

"They called me and they said we found her and I drove down here and by the time I got down here it was all taped up and there she was in the back of the garage," said Hardwick.

Nelson has been missing for two weeks and her family formed a search party last weekend. One of those people who was searching followed a trail of mothballs to her body.

"I was hopeful, but I’m happy we found her," Hardwick said.

She told FOX 2's Jessica Dupnack that Brandy had been kept against her will in a house not far from where her body was found. She lived with her 6-month-old baby and the child's father."

This woman was kept inside of this home against her will along with her child but, her main focus was getting her child to safety.

Luckily she was able to get a cell phone and call for her help before she went missing for two weeks. Her baby is now with family members.

From the article, it was evident that this woman was scared for her life and did not know how she was going to make it out of the house safely.

It is always sad when people lose their lives to domestic violence or go missing when all they want is to be safe.

I am hoping that the child was not harmed in any way or saw their mother get hurt. Losing a parent or someone close to you is always tough.

In an event like this, it is important to protect women instead of watching them get hurt and killed on a daily basis.

After reading articles like this I see how important it is to take self-defense classes so we know how to protect ourselves when situations like this arise.

It is always the people that are close to us that we least expect to put us in danger, knowing that this woman was found in a garage is just awful.

It sad knowing that this child will always wonder what happened to his mother and father as he grows up.

It is good news that they were able to find the woman's body so the family does not have to wonder anymore about if she is safe or in danger.

In a situation like this, how would you protect yourself?

How would you make sure you and your child would make it out safe?
